Day-by-Day Programme
Explore the magnificence of Selous Game Reserve by land, boat and on foot on this four-day safari of discovery. Hobnob with Africa’s largest concentrations of hippo, elephant, and cape buffalo, and enjoy the rare chance to walk among these majestic animals.
Day 1: Dar Es Salaam – Selous Game Reserve
Our boat winds through the Rufiji River, tracing the routes of ancient Greeks and Romans and, more recently, the British Royal Navy. Today, this peaceful river hosts only crocodiles, hippos, and other wildlife native to the Selous Game Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest faunal reserves in the world.
An evening game drive introduces you to Selous’ scenic solid grounds and a reserve four times the size of the mighty Serengeti. Here, in a place of protected lands and astonishing biodiversity, every glance reveals a new sight: massive elephants lazing riverside, giraffes foraging in the trees, and motionless lions hunting their prey.
Dinner and overnight at Rufiji River Camp.
Day 2: Selous Game Reserve
Your hands grip your seat and your nerves hum, like a wildcat primed to pounce. Astonishing and exhilarating sights appear just outside your window, almost close enough to touch. Today’s full-day, 4×4 game drive through Selous reveals the spectacular offerings of this diverse reserve, which gives shelter to the largest populations of bush elephants, African wild dogs, hippos, cape buffalo, and crocodiles anywhere on the continent.
Dinner and overnight at Rufiji River Camp.
Day 3: Selous Game Reserve
The savannah unfolds before you, a world of wonders ripe for discovery. Today, you explore Selous as few ever will: on your own two feet. An armed ranger accompanies you on a walking safari through the reserve, granting you the rare and privileged opportunity to sift sun bleached earth through your fingers and crouch hidden in the grasses as elephants, buffalo and hippos meander past.
Dinner and overnight at Rufiji River Camp.
Day 4: Selous Game Reserve – Dar Es Salaam
We chase the sun into Selous this morning, on an early morning game drive through the reserve. After an early lunch, we’ll depart for Dar es Salaam, where we arrive in time for late afternoon flights or an overnight in the city.
