Saadani National Park is the youngest national park in Tanzania. Saadani National Park is located on the Indian Ocean, in the shadow of Zanzibar and about 100 km northwest of Dar es Salaam. Saadani National Park is approximately the same size as the IJsselmeer and is characterized by a special combination of Zanzibar, bush, plains and river. Something you won’t find anywhere else in East Africa.
Saadani National Park is a great choice for travellers who have already visited Tanzania’s more famous parks and don’t feel like heading to busier Zanzibar for a Zanzibar holiday. Saadani National Park is a special and unique alternative. The combination of a white sandy Zanzibar and a national park brings together relaxing on the Zanzibar and game drives in search of wildlife.
Saadani National Park has a diversity of animals comparable to many other parks. Buffalo, elephants, lions, zebras and various antelope species are just a few of the animals that live here. Don’t be surprised that some animals visit the Zanzibar. The sight of seeing elephants standing by the ocean or finding lion tracks on the sandy Zanzibar in the early morning is unique.
Saadani National Park is therefore a destination that is ideal for looking for wildlife in the early morning and snorkeling on a sandbank off the coast or relaxing in the afternoon. The Wami River flows through Saadani National Park. Other animals can be spotted here, such as a large population of hippos, crocodiles, flamingos and many large bird species. In terms of quantity, it is seasonal. In short, Saadani National Park is a unique (final) destination for a visit to Tanzania.
