Ruaha National Park

Ruaha National Park is located between the Njombe and Ruaha rivers in Central Tanzania and is therefore located in a unique part of Africa.

Ruaha has been a protected area since 1910. Because Ruaha was inaccessible for a long time, it still has an unspoilt and rugged appearance with spectacular landscapes, making it perhaps one of the most intriguing parks in Africa. Together with Rungwa Game Reserve and Usangu Game Reserve, Ruaha is located in an ecological transition zone. This makes it possible for flora and fauna from southern and northern Africa to occur here. So unique. Yet Ruaha National Park still has few visitors.

The Ruaha River finds its way through the park through jagged rock formations. During the dry period, the Ruaha River is a lifeline for the animals that live in the varied landscape. Mountain ranges, ravines, rivers and vast plains alternate. Ruaha National Park is home to approximately 10,000 elephants. Furthermore, there is a chance to see kudus, other antelope species, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, lions, leopards, wild dogs and approximately 480 different bird species.

Distances
The parks in southern Tanzania are more difficult to reach by road than in northern Tanzania. Travel distances are longer and more tiring. Therefore, in most cases it is worth considering covering the distances by transfer flight. This saves a lot of time and, depending on the time of the flight, there is still enough time left at the place of departure and arrival to participate in an activity that day.

For road transfers it is not possible to drive directly between Ruaha and Selous. The route must then go via Mikumi.

Duration of transfer by road
Ruaha – Mikumi: 6 hours or more depending on circumstances.
If you come from Dar es Salaam or Selous, an overnight stay in Mikumi is necessary. (Dar – Mikumi, 6 hours and Selous Mikumi 9 hours)

Duration of transfer by flight
Ruaha – Dar es salaam: 1. 25 minutes
Ruaha – Mikumi: 65 minutes
Ruaha – Selous: 80 minutes
