Lake Natron

Lake Natron is also a soda lake with very special deep red hues, where large colonies of flamingos and pelicans are regularly observed. The lake is surrounded by a particularly rugged volcanic landscape, including the Oldoinyo Lengai volcano, the sacred mountain of the proud Maasai tribes.

Lake Natron is located north of the Ngorongoro crater at the lowest point of the Great Rift Valley bordering Kenya. In the west, the lake is bordered by wooded slopes where rivers turn into waterfalls and the special hot water springs are fed by the proximity of the active volcano Oldoinyo Lengai. In addition to the many flamingos, pelicans and zebras come here in the rainy season and the rare gerenuk and gemsbok in the dry season.

Lake Natron can be easily combined with a safari tour, where you can take walks to the local Maasai tribes, swim in freshwater at the waterfall and beautiful nature walks along the lake, where steep slopes can be climbed with the most beautiful panoramic views as a reward.
