14 Days Aim For Africa Safari

This Tanzania Safari takes you to the hidden treasures of Tanzania. You will interact with the remote local life, do night walks, enjoy unspoilt Zanzibares and much more.

Day 1: Arrival

You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport by your driver and our representative. We will take you to the famous Hatari Lodge, once home to German actor Hardy Krueger. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by the lodge manager and discussed your Arusha safari program for the following two days. Hatari Lodge is picturesquely situated at the foot of majestic Mt. Meru with breathtaking views over Arusha National Park. Overnight at Hatari Lodge. Dinner included. Note: If you are arriving at an airport other than Kilimanjaro, we will arrange a connecting flight to Arusha either on arrival or the following day (at an additional cost). Road transfers are also available from Nairobi in private or shared vehicles.

Day 2-3: Hatari/Momella/Arusha National Park

Spend two days at Hatari Lodge and the lodge organizes safari activities including game drives in Arusha National Park, forest walks at Mt Meru and around the lodge. Local communities, the Momella village or Maasai villages are also usually visited. 2 x overnight stays at Hatari Lodge. All meals included.

Day 4-5: Mkomazi Game Reserve

In the morning you leave Hatari and drive to Mkomazi Game Reserve. It serves as a buffer to the adjacent Tsavo National Park in Kenya. The Pare and Usambara Mountains form the border in the south. The two mountain ranges in the background, alternating from sparse tree savannas to grasslands, are the reason for such an imposing and breathtaking landscape; and due to the protective measures taken, the number of animals has increased significantly. Although there are not as many animals as in some of the better known national parks, this is more than made up for by the beautiful scenery. Among a variety of other game, it has the largest population of gerenuk antelope in Tanzania. Bird lovers can observe around 400 different species of birds there. Mkomazi is also known for his African wild dog breeding projects and the George Adamson/Tony Fitzjohn African Wildlife Preservation Trust’s rare black rhinoceros. If possible, you can visit the project and see the wild dogs and rhinos. If you wish, you can easily go on a night game drive or a guided walk around the camp this evening. 2 x overnight stays at Babu’s Camp in the Mkomazi Game Reserve. All meals included.

Day 6: Mkomazi – Usambara

After breakfast, return to Same – the bustling market town at the foot of the Pare Mountains. If you wish, you can visit the lively market (Sunday is market day) or church before continuing along the majestic landscape of the Pare/Western Usambara Mountains and large sisal plantations to Soni/Lushoto in the heart of the Usambara Mountains, a small but very friendly farmhouse. Overnight at Maweni Farms or Mullers Lodge. Breakfast and dinner included.

Day 7-8: Western Usambara

Spend the following two days in a lush green, unspoilt setting in a small eco-friendly lodge. Your hosts will organize various hiking tours for you in the surrounding area, which will take you to the Sakkarani Mountains, small villages, the Mazumbai rainforest, the Irente viewpoint, etc. If you wish, you can attend the service at one of the many churches in Lushoto or nearby. The hikes are designed according to your wishes. 2 x overnight stays at Maweni Farms or Mullers Lodge. All meals included.

Day 9-11:  Usambara – Pangani

After breakfast, your taxi will be waiting for you and will take you to the remote Zanzibares of Pangani near the Indian Ocean (journey time approx. 4-5 hours), partly on asphalt and partly on unpaved dirt roads. If you reach the Zanzibar around midday/early afternoon it is time to rest and relax, sunbathe and enjoy a long, unspoiled Zanzibar. 2 x overnight stays in Kijongo Bay. Breakfast and dinner are included in the price.

Day 12: Pangani – Saadani

Depending on your private schedule, you’ll travel again by taxi from Pangani along the Indian Ocean coast to Saadani – the only wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania that borders the sea – where bush meets Zanzibar and you can experience a completely unique, unspoilt experience Nature with the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean in front and the African bush in the back. Overnight stay at A Tent with a View Lodge. Breakfast and dinner included.

Day 13: Saadani National Park

Full-day game drives and safari activities in Saadani National Park, which offers a unique combination of marine and mainland flora and fauna in a culturally fascinating environment of savannas, sea and rivers, forests and shrubs. You can see elephant buffaloes, hartebeests, waterbucks, reedbucks, warthogs, numerous giraffes, wildebeests, rarely lions, hyenas, genets, porcupines and various baboons. In the morning you will go on an exciting game drive. After lunch on the banks of the Wami River, take a boat safari to the Wami River, where large groups of hippos live and Nile crocodiles can be seen, as well as kingfishers, ospreys and many species of wading birds. Overnight stay in a Tent with a view lodge. All meals included.
