10 Days Family Safari in Northern Tanzania

With our expertise in family safaris, Jolita Safari knows how to keep the whole family content. The following are some essential components: child-safe, spacious accommodations with flexible pricing policies; itineraries that include at least two nights in each location and non-wildlife activities that let the kids spend some time outside the vehicle; and classic safari destinations like the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Arusha National Park. The program offers options for family-friendly activities as well as access to additional parks.

Day 1: Arrival Day

Your driver/guide and our representative will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport. We’ll transport you to the lovely Meru View Lodge, which is located directly on Mount Meru’s slopes. Kids will love the laid-back ambiance and freedom to explore the park-like landscape. An other place to stay is at Rivertree Country Inn, which is situated directly on the border of Arusha National Park and offers stunning views of Mount Meru. We’ll send our safari manager to greet you and give you an overview of the trip. Dinner will be served.

Day 2: Cultural Excursion in Arusha

You will embark on an expedition around the surrounding area of your lodge today, so you may unwind, sleep in if you’d like, and spend more time at your lodge instead of having to leave after only one night. There are three alternatives available to you. You can  select the option that best meets the needs of your family:

Arusha National Park: After breakfast, take a drive to this park, which was the backdrop for the action-packed Hollywood film Hatari, starring Hardy Kruger and John Wayne. On the savannah, you pass herds of buffalo, giraffe, and zebra. Have a picnic at Momella Lake, which is well-known for its views of the majestic Mount Everest and its enormous flocks of colorful flamingos. Mount Kilimanjaro. You continue in the afternoon with a game drive through this incredibly stunning national park’s various habitats. There are shy forest duikers, elusive leopards, large herds of antelope, Sykes’s and vervet monkeys, and black and white colobus monkeys, which are unique to this area of northern Tanzania. If you’d like, an armed ranger can accompany you on your hike through dense forest on Mt. Meru’s slopes or along the edge of the Crater while he or she protects you from some of the larger animals.

As an alternative, you could visit some cultural sites rather than Arusha National Park. We provide the following services:

Mulala: Visit the locals and gain insight into the day-to-day activities of Meru farmers as they cultivate crops and vegetables in this charming village perched on the slopes of Mount Meru. You stroll from Mama Anna’s farm, past banana and coffee plantations, up Lemeka Hill, and back down to the Marisha River, where you can see vibrant birds and entertaining monkeys, escorted by a local guide. Before you head back to Arusha, the village women will make you a simple but delicious lunch.

Nkoaranga Village: Visit to the small village of Nkoaranga Village: A full-day excursion. Here you can find a local cooperative of fair-trade coffee growers, consisting of small-scale coffee farmers who collaborate to establish a naturally grown, sustainable fair-trade coffee business. See the various stages involved in growing coffee by visiting the plantations. Discover the methods used to gather, prepare, roast, grind, and carefully package coffee beans. The first organic bean harvest is expected to occur within the next two years. All proceeds from coffee sales go back to the local farmers, who use them to build their expanding organic farming project and reinvest in it. Before you head back to Arusha, you have lunch in the village. If preferred, there is also a stroll through the village and a visit to the nearby orphanage or school. 2nd Overnight at Meru View Lodge or Rivertree Country Inn in Arusha. All meals included

Day 3: Lake Manyara

Our journey to Lake Manyara takes approximately two and a half to three hours, after breakfast. Famous for its breathtaking beauty, the park is tucked away at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. There are numerous game animals to be seen, including hippopotamuses, buffalo, elephants, giraffes, and impalas. The Kirurumu River requires several large rock crossings, so after spending the most of the day in the car, you might enjoy a leisurely stroll along it. Now is an excellent opportunity to leave your car and take a stroll around this stunning area. It is inevitable that you will get wet and muddy feet! After your game drive at Lake Manyara, you will make the short drive to Ngorongoro, which allows you to visit the crater floor early the next day. Come to Country Lodge for an evening of comfort and relaxation. This rustic lodge is located on the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and features cozy rooms surrounded by a large tropical garden with a welcoming swimming pool. All meals included. Transfer time without game viewing 3 hours

Day 4: Around Karatu

Spend the day exploring Karatu, stopping by the bustling market, and taking a guided walk to one of the neighboring coffee estates or, for those seeking a more strenuous experience, Ganeko Hill, which is a bit further away. If fortune favors you, you may see an elderly descendant of the ancient Iraqw Tribe who would be delighted to share his culture and history with you during one of the vibrant Maasai Markets conducted every week. Second night at the Country Lodge Every meal is served.

Day 5: Ngorongoro – Serengeti

Following breakfast, you begin your 4-hour drive to the Serengeti National Park, where there is lots to see along the way! Zebras grazing, antelopes, giraffes, and occasionally buffalos hidden in the underbrush may all be seen along the way. When you arrive at a Maasai boma, or traditional village, a few Maasai warriors will greet you, give you a tour of the area, and give you an overview of their way of life. They’ll also demonstrate their well-known jumping dance for you, and if you’d like, you can join in! In addition, you can meet kids, take pictures, ask questions, and take a closer look inside of houses! You will have your picnic on a kopje, or outcropping of rock, in the Serengeti, and then drive through the park to enjoy an afternoon game drive. You may see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes, and numerous birds and other species, depending on the season and herd migration. You will spend this and the next night in a cozy tent camp on the outskirts of the well-known Serengeti, with views of the never-ending savannah that is home to various animals and typical African acacia trees. After dinner, spend leisurely hours conversing with other guests and the friendly security personnel by the outdoor campfire.

When dawn breaks, you can carry breakfast boxes and have a bush breakfast before heading to Seronera’s fascinating Serengeti documentation center. Following breakfast, we’ll head to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and, weather permitting, have a nature walk in the afternoon at the Northern Crater Rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, which is home to a variety of wildlife species, including buffaloes, elephants, baboons, monkeys, and birds. At Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge for the second night. Every meal is served.

Day 9: Lake Eyasi

You continue from Ngorongoro to Lake Eyasi, the ancestral home of the Hadzabe Bushmen, a hunter-gatherer community with traits like those of Bushmen in Southern Africa. This indigenous tribe’s diminutive people are likely the last to live in perfect peace with the natural world, and they have a wealth of information about the flora and fauna to impart to us. You will also get to see the isolated Datoga Tribe, who are well-known for their vibrant leather outfits, near Lake Eyasi. Visits and cultural interactions abound around Lake Eyasi throughout the day, culminating in a stunning sunset on the lake’s shores.
