Family safaris are Jolita Safari’s area of expertise, and we have the formula to keep the whole family content. The following are some crucial components: unique lodges with sufficiently large rooms, accommodations with a lenient price policy, cottages with unique characteristics and safety for children. Itineraries with minimal alterations — a minimum of two nights in each location, hikes in the wilderness and other outdoor pursuits. There are plenty of family-friendly activities outside the vehicle on this Tanzanian family safari, which will satisfy fidgety kids. The Udzungwa Mountains, Mikumi, and Selous are places where you may witness animals.
Day 1: Arrival
Day 2: Dar Es Salaam – Selous Game Reserve
You begin your family’s safari in Southern Tanzania after breakfast. After checking into the accommodation, you will travel (about 5-7 hours) to the Selous Game Reserve. You take your time soaking in the untamed African surroundings when you arrive at your resort in the afternoon in time for a late lunch. Following lunch and some relaxation, you go on a guided walking trip along the Rufiji River’s riverbanks to see a little bit of the region surrounding your lodge. Strolling between bushes and ancient mahogany trees, you get to see hippos grunting and mingling in the water as well as joyful monkeys in the canopy. Make sure you reach your resort in time for a refreshing sundowner. Overnight at Selous Mapumziko Lodge. All meals included
Day 3: Selous Safari
A full day of game drives at the Frederick Selous-named Selous Game Reserve. Now known as Nyerere National Park is a massive protected game reserve that is larger than Switzerland and a pure, deserted region that is recognized as a UN World Heritage site. The Rufiji River and its tributaries have carved out rocky outcrops, grassland plains, and rolling savannah woodlands throughout the park. Game drives, an exciting and instructive walking safari, and a boat ride on the Rufiji River are among the activities. Overnight at Selous Mapumziko Lodge. All meals included
Day 4: Selous Game Reserve
Today you visit a nearby village for some cultural outings. View the everyday activities of the people living in Tanzania’s distant countryside, gain some understanding of their culture, and interact with the amiable locals. This is a fantastic opportunity to practice some basic Swahili! Overnight at Selous Mapumziko Lodge. All meals included
Day 5: Selous – Mikumi
You will go to the next thrilling safari circuit stop after breakfast. Before arriving at your tent in the afternoon, you must first travel through a sizable and isolated portion of the Northern Selous on a few uneven and occasionally dusty roads that go to Morogoro Town and Mikumi National Park. To truly capture the essence of Africa, go over the seemingly boundless wilderness to the southwest of Mikumi National Park and stay at Vuma Hills Tented Camp.
You take a little nap before heading out for an afternoon game drive in Mikumi. There is time for a pool dip before getting dressed for the evening, depending on when you go on your game drive. You can witness rare honey badgers and civet cats in the evenings at your camp’s particular feeding area. Spend the night in the tented at Vuma Hill Camp. Every meal is served
Day 6: Mikumi Safari
Today you explore Mikumi further on a full day safari. A day at Mikumi National Park provides a good impression of African safari wildlife and is very well suited for a short visit. There is a rich variety of bird species as well as large numbers of buffaloes and elephants, and a great many giraffe which can be seen traversing the plains with their unique ambling gait. Close to the water holes lions, leopards and hippos can also be found. Other species residing here include zebras, wild dogs, pythons, hartebeest, wildebeest, elephants, impala, warthog, eland and other antelopes. Several observation towers enable you to overview the rolling miombo woodland and wide open plains of Mikumi in its entirety – an amazing view. Together with an armed ranger you will also go for a walking safari to the bush while your guide shows you shrubs, footprints and animal tracks. 2nd overnight at Vuma Hill Tented Camp. All meals included
Day 7: Udzungwa Mountain National Park
After breakfast your depart for Udzungwa Mountain National Park (drive of some 2 hours), one of the most interesting bio-diversity and unique rainforest areas of East Africa, where many extremely rare plants and animal species have been identified (and indeed continue to be discovered). Among the six types of primates there are two endemic species found nowhere else in the world – the Udzungwa Colobus Monkey and the Sanje Crested Mangabey. You arrive at your camp late morning for a day of walking and bird-watching in the pristine rain forest, hiking towards the Sanje waterfalls for spectacular views of the wide Kilombero Valley. If you wish, you can bath and play around in the pools at the waterfalls.
For the next 3 nights you stay at the unique Udzungwa Forest Camp, set on spacious lush green grounds on the border of the pristine rainforest. Children can roam free around the camp, running on the grass, taking in the magical views of the forest canopy, relaxing at the regular campfires in the night, or even spending some time bug-watching!
Overnight in the Hondo Hondo Udzungwa Forest Camp (Accommodation in a en suite luxury tent). All meals included
Day 8-9: Udzungwa Mountain National Park
Spend 2 more active days at Udzungwa Forest Camp, filled with fun suited to the needs of you and your family. Activities to choose from include a (quite tough) hike to the mountain national park, a walking tour to Mwaya Town and onwards to the Rubber Plantation (to see where natural latex comes from and how it is processed), a relaxing few hours on a traditional dug out canoe floating along the Kilomero River (excellent for budding birdwatchers!), and mountain-biking around Kilombero Valley. One activity is offered per day as per your preference.
2 x Overnight in the Hondo Hondo Udzungwa Forest Camp. All meals included.
Day 10: Udzungwa – Dar Es Salaam
Your Family Safari Tanzania South comes to an end. After breakfast, you go back by car to Dar es Salaam (about 6-7 hours) in preparation for your departure or an exciting Zanzibar vacation on the Island of Zanzibar.
