7 Questions to Ask Before Book a Safari in Tanzania

In Tanzania there are several areas where you can make safaris. We recommend that you do this with a private driver and guide. You travel in a Land Cruiser/Rover with an opening roof and windows. Professional guidance is provided by an experienced English-speaking guide. He knows his way like no other and knows from experience the best locations in Tanzania for spotting the many game. The safari parks of northern Tanzania are the best known, but the west and south of Tanzania are also home to beautiful safari areas. If you find driving by road too tiring and want to save time, it is best to travel by plane. Almost every safari park has an airstrip. After a number of intensive days among nature, it is wonderful to relax on one of the beautiful Zanzibares. Choose one of the islands around Zanzibar , or the extensive Zanzibares along the Swahili coast .

Why should we book with Jolita Safari and not another tour operator?

As mentioned in our home pages, our origins lie in the heart of Africa; we have the knowledge and experience to guide people so that their experience of this special place is unique and memorable. We do that simply because WE CARE – we care about Africa and we care that those who visit it share our passion and enthusiasm for the conservation and preservation of Africa.

Apart from that, our level and quality of service is unmatched by any other – personalised safaris are our speciality and this is the thread on which we have built our business. Our ground operations are managed by well established locals guides all of whom have expert knowledge of the areas, customs and programs that we cater for. We use state-of-the art vehicles and equipment and our staff are professional, polite and extremely knowledgeable. There are many large companies in the internet who claim to have first-hand knowledge of Africa – ask the person at the desk and you will discover just how much they really know. We sell what we know.

How flexible are your programs?

Because of the very nature of the way we operate, our personalised safaris mean that flexibility is the number one priority. Our programs are tailored to fit in with our clients’ requirements and we plan the entire holiday through discussions with our clients so that everyone knows they are getting what they asked for. No tour is the same – different age groups, numbers in the party, the duration of stay and amount clients wish to spend, are all factors in the flexibility of our programs. 80% of our tours are tailor-made.

Why should I go to Africa now?

Despite current problems associated with international terrorism as with most other exotic destinations, Africa remains unspoilt and an ideal location for a dream holiday. The truth is that much of East Africa remains as it always was, and commercialisation has not yet hit many parts unlike other destinations. Despite the efforts of many wildlife and community development organisations, the simple fact is that poverty in Africa threatens wildlife and natural habitats. Abject poverty gives rise to poaching. Tanzania and Kenya are amongst the forefront of African countries working to ensure that there remains peaceful means for coexistence between man and wildlife/natural habitats. However progress in this direction is slow and tourism is the key sector in East Africa, that enables indigenous peoples to continue to live their lives as they always used to (such as the Maasai).

East Africa in particular still holds the promise of fulfilling that dream of travelling to Africa and experiencing all the natural and exotic wonders of this beautiful land. Jolita Safari endeavours to ensure that people from all lands can come to Africa and witness the spectacular beauty and natural rhythms of this unspoilt “heaven-on-earth”.

Why are your prices not as competitive as some of the other tour companies?

We believe we provide the best service at the most affordable prices. Not for us the bedraggled tours on crammed open-trucks – if that is what you are looking for, there are many overland truck companies who would be happy to comply. We operate on a strictly professional, high quality service and our reputation in the tourism business speaks for itself. In short, we provide Quality at the Right Price.

We have had incidents where clients from other companies have moved to us having seen our vehicles and spoken with our clients at hotels – some of them had bad experiences because the safaris they had booked were a lot cheaper but of course they hadn’t seen what they had bargained for! We do not believe in compromising quality for low prices – those who do so, realise what their services are worth..

What sort of vehicles do you use?

We use 4-wheel drive vehicles on all of our Tanzanian safaris (landrovers and landcruisers) except in the case of transfers between airports and hotels where minibuses are used. The 4WD vehicles are fitted with either a pop-up or flip-flop rooftop, which makes it ideal for game viewing and photography. Each vehicle is equipped with a high-frequency radio, set of referral books, first aid kit, cool box for drinks, and a pair of binoculars.

For our Kenyan Safaris, minibuses may be used in some parks and 4WD vehicles in Maasai Mara and other parks. All vehicles used have pop-up roofs to enable easy game viewing and photography.

Tell us more about the guides and other staff you employ.

The staff we use for our ground operations – the driver/guides, cooks, mountain guides and office staff are all very experienced, knowledgeable, well-disciplined, polite, careful and all share a passion for their homeland. Their jobs are not just for livelihood, they truly enjoy what they do and share their enthusiasm with others. Regular in-house training helps ascertain that their knowledge and inter-personal skills are updated so that visitors’ experiences are extra special. Whether in the middle of the vast emptiness of the National Park or high above the clouds on the mountain, these are the people to guide and assist you and their friendship will prove invaluable.

How good are your mountain guides?

Our mountain guides are polite, informative, encouraging and good coordinators. They are the most important aspect of a mountain trek. Their kind but firm attitude, coordination with other crew members and their quiet words of encouragement at the times that you most feel like quitting are all qualities desired by the very nature of the task they have at hand. They are the people who will guide and encourage you when you want to give up, assist you when sick, and applaud you when you reach the summit!!! Our guides are well trained and experienced professionals and share passion and pride for the mountain that they scaled as mere children.
